The itinerary

India

We shall start our journey from New-Delhi where we will take possession of our motorbikes and pack our luggages. From Delhi, we will head diretcly to Amritsar, the Sikh capital and the city of the Golden Temple. The Pakistani border will be very close and we will cross toward Lahore. However, before leaving New-Delhi we will interview the « Team Everlast », a group of extreme Indian stuntsman.

We will enter Pakistan through the Gate of Lahore, famous for its border closing ceremony. Once in Lahore, the former capital, we willl meet with our first portrait, Moïn Khan. Our next destination is Islamabad, the present capital. We will then start tour journey on the famous Karakoram Highway, passing through the Naran Valley and meet again with the KKH in Chilas. We will arrive in Gilgit, a village that is used as a basecamp for many mountaineers. We won’t miss Karimabad, a small village that overlook the valley and host the best walnut pie of whole Central Asia. Finally, we will reach the Chinese border, heading north.

The Chinese legislation prevent us to roam freely in China without a guide following us. This is why we will meet with our guide at the border and cross with him the most Western part of China, in the Xinjiang province. The crossing is extremely onerous and we won’t spend much time in China. However, we will visit the city of Kaxgar, one of the oldest in the world. We will continue up North to the Kunjherab pass, where we will abandon our guide to enter Kyrgyzstan.

Once in the Kyrgyz mountains we will meet many sheperds and isolated farmers on our way to Naryn. We will visit the altitude lake of Son Kul et then ride along the gigantic Yssik Kul, one of the largest altitude lake in the world, up to Karakol, the large city on the East coast. We will continue North-East to reach the Kazakh border.

Inside Kazakhstan we will ride through gigantics steppes, but also mountainous terrain. We will stop first in the small village of Keghen before going to Almaty, a modern an large city in the South of Kazakhstan. There, we will service our bikes and prepare them for the harsh terrain that will await them in the next few thousands kilometers. If we have the time, we will visit the many natural reserves that are next to Almaty.

We will enter Kyrgyzstan once again, on the West side this time. Our first stop will be in Bishkek for visa work. The next destinaiton is Osh, that we will reach on the « Bishkek-Osh » highway, one of the most beautiful road in the world. We will continue further South toward the Altaï valley and the village of Sary-Moghul, at the bottom of Mount Lenin, one of the highest summit of the former USSR. There we will meet with our third portrait, the Olympic Skier Kasidin Muaev. After the interview, we will enter Tajikistan and the Pamir Highway.

We will reach Tajikistan by the M41, known as the Pamir Highway, a harsh but beautiful road that cross Tajikistan from East to West. We will take the South road, known as the Wakhan Valley where we will ride next to the Afghan border for hundreds of kilometers. From old forts to hot springs, we will meet many Pamiri and experience the famous hospitality of the region. Once in Dushanbe we will meet with our fifth portait, the only one metal band in Tajikistan : « Red Planet ». The Uzbek border is close from Dushanbe, a hundred kilometers West.

Uzbekistan is a country with vast deserts, and a lot of history. We will visit the towns of Samarkand, Bukkhara, Khiva that were large cities on the Silk Roads where nomads and caravans stopped to rest. We will visit the large medressas and mosques that are hundreds of years old. Then, we will head up North to Nukus and the city of Moynaq that was once one the shoare of the Aral sea but now is on the middle of a desert, with old rusting ships on the sand as only reminder of the past. The Aral sea shrinked due to the intensive use of water for the cotton fiels that the Soviets created during the USSR.

Turkmenistan

Our journey into Turkmenistan will be short, if we get the transit visa, we will have five days to cross the country, from North to South. We will take the time to camp close to the « Gate to Hell », a former exploratory hole for gaz that explosed and has been burning for more the 40 years.

Iran

Iran

Entering Iran close to Machhad, a sacred city, we will cross the country from East to West. We will spend a long time in Iran, to discover the many old cities that lies on the path of the Silk Road. From the ruins of Persepolis to the prosperous Esphahan, the we ride through deserts, oasis, big and small cities where we will meet with the Iranians that have the reputation to be very hospitable. We will visit Teheran and go to the Caspian Sea before entering Azerbaijan.

While riding along the Caspian sea, we will enter Azerbaijan and reach Bakku, the ultra modern capital that ow its success to the exploitation of petrol in the Caspian sea. Then, we will head to Georgia by the North way, along the beautiful mountains of the border with Russia.

Georgia

Georgia

We will continue in the North of Georgia, in a region that is famous for its wine and delicious food. After a short gastronomical stop, we will reacg Tbilissi, the capital, and enter Armenia for a short visit, before entering Georgia again, in the West this time, to continue toward Turkey. The border between Armenia and Azerbaijan are closed due to a political conflict, as are the borders from Armenia with Turkey, that is why we have to go twice in Georgia, for our biggest pleasure.

Armenia

Armenia

Armenia is a beautiful country that goes from Georgia to Iran. We will do a circuit in Armenia that will bring us to the shore of the Servan lake and up to the South, with its 1001 orthodox churches, some of them being the oldest one in the world. We will ride on beautiful roads in the mountains and through the forest before going back to Georgia.

Turkey

Turkey

We will enter Turkey through the shore of the Black Sea and directly head South, toward Turkish Kurdistan, the Euphrate and Cappadocia. We will closely follow the political situation in the country and wander where it is safe to go. We will visit the Van Lake, the famous city of Batman and then go West bound toward Istambul, riding in the Cappadocia region. Isambul will mark the end of our Asiatic journey, as we cross the Bosphorus, we will enter Europe.

Europe

Europe

The last part of our itinerary will see us wander across the Balkans, crossing the North of Greece before entering Albania, Bosnia, Montenegro, Croatia, Slovenia, following the shore of the Adriatic Sea. We will finally arrive in Venice that will be the symbolic end of our journey, as it was the city the ended the Silk Road. From there, we will go back to Brussels, our hometown, by the North of Italia and the Como Lake, entering Switzerland and then a last leg in Germany before finaly entering Belgium.
